Geocaching Community Celebration Event 31 Dec 2022

A few years ago Groundspeak (owners of geocaching.com) decided to mark twenty years of public use of GPS satellites being available and the introduction of geocaching with a limited release of Community Celebration Events to some geocachers. I was lucky enough to have been allocated one, but unfortunately Covid got in the way. The events were to be hosted in 2020, this being extended to end of 2022 as Covid restrictions were eased.

I decided to organise my event for the very last day of 2022, and so GC8M9AW was created. With a lunchtime gathering at one of the lower-end public houses (sorry, but food and drink were cheap), we slowly took over more and more tables in the pub. Some of us were there for nearly four hours. With nearly 40 people attending, we held a pub quiz, signed a huge card and chatted geocaching and festive chat.

It was nice to see visitors from afar, from Finland, Hungary, London and Aylesbury, as well as the usual crowd of cunning locals from Fleet, Tadley, Woodcote, Tilehurst and Newbury.

Thank you to everyone who attended and I wish all cachers a happy prosperous 2023.
