Smallest Country, Cached.
A trip to the Vatican
My son and I spent two weeks recently in Rome and Naples, exploring lots of historic sites and I was able to do a bit of geocaching in Italy too. While in Rome I opted to host a geocaching event in a neighbouring country, The Vatican City.
VC is actually the smallest country in the world. It's an enclave within Italy (as is San Marino). With an area of just 49 hectares, it is really small. Crossing from Italy you don't need a passport, you just find a gap in the colonnade and enter St.Peter's square. Once in there you join the long long queues to enter the basilica, or you meet some non-english speaking tourists and gesticulate and gain a place which saved a few hours.
It was hot, even for April. I hosted an event in the middle of St.Peter's Square. No one else came, not even the Pope, however, it counts as an event for my stats so I'm happy.
