This summer it just rains

Rain Rain Rain Rain Rain

I had hoped to make use of the warm extended-light summer evenings to go geocaching after work, pick up a series here, collect a few solved mystery caches there; However the past few weeks has been unbelievably wet and unpredictable. As I look out of my window I see that the grass needs cutting and there's a hint of blue sky behind those murky clouds but I know that the grass is too wet to cut right now. So, perhaps I should get my bike out and go for an off-road cycle to pick up a few caches somewhere else. The trouble is that it means getting the bike caked in mud and I have quite an early start for work in the morning.

I went out at the weekend geocaching. The intention was to pick up a bunch of caches in a series I'd solved a couple of years back. Mr Cryptic's 101 series near Petersfield is a relatively sedate solve, unlike those of my friend Chris from team WKMJ, who laces his caches with trails of Clupeoides Rubeus. I packed my rucksack with snacks and tools and head off to the village of Langrish where I decamped and headed out on the trail.

No sooner than I'd alighted from the motor the clouds turned grey. Then I discovered that a bug on the GPS loaded back home had prevented the series' GPX files from being transfered to my device. I had to rely on my Android phone to provide navigation. Soon I'd bagged one, then two, then three... then the heavens opened. That's not good news with a smartphone. Touchscreen's don't respond well when they're wet, that's why I like my IPX7-rating on the eTrex. Raincoat on and there's nothing worse than stinging nettles when you're geocaching than very wet stinging nettles.
